JOB TITLE: QA Lead

About the company:
Great North Aleworks is an award-winning production craft brewery in Manchester, New Hampshire. We are one of the largest craft brewers in the state, with a 3-vessel 20-barrel DME brewhouse, Wild Goose/Ska Fabrication packaging line, comprehensive quality program, 1,500 square foot drive in cooler, and large tasting room with outdoor patio.
Great North Aleworks maintains a fanatical devotion to quality, family, and company culture. We recently entered our eighth year of production and are widely distributed in New Hampshire with plans for increased distribution.
About the position:
This position will be responsible for the continuous improvement of the quality program at Great North by assessing current practices for efficiency and effectiveness, staying current on new procedures and products, and evaluating current brands.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Yeast management
- Ensure adequate availability of yeast for scheduled brews
- Harvesting
- Cell counts and viability testing to determine pitch rates
- Maintain and improve yeast health
- Yeast propagation
- Yeast brink management
- Pitch yeast when necessary
- Data collection and analysis
- Communicate the need for corrective action when necessary
- Establish and maintain SOPs related to all QA/QC procedures
- Manage micro program including plating and PCR testing for common beer spoilers
- Communicate and document current QA/QC specs for use by production staff
- Schedule and run weekly sensory
- Maintain cleanliness of lab, clean room
- Calibration of measurement tools and equipment

Requirements:
- Science and beer background preferred, but not mandatory
- Proper use of PPE
- Positive attitude
- Basic math and computer skills
- Excel experience a plus
- Attention to detail
- Genuine enthusiasm for craft beer
- Comfortable with heights
- Ability to lift 55 lbs., climb stairs and ladders
